The New Intelligent Decision Drilling System
The common decision drilling system is based on the comprehensive logging unit with the analysis of technical staff. But the system has great limitations: no rehearsal of well design, no provision for the risk pre-warning based on real-time data, no means for 3D visualization, and lacks automated operations recognition. However, the new decision system based on the network and information database has achieved the intelligent drilling analysis and broken through the above limitations.
The new decision drilling system is based on the Internet and the intelligent monitoring and remote decision-making are taken as means. Firstly, by inputting the well design, the system could preview the whole process of drilling operations. Secondly, the system has real-time monitoring capabilities to monitor current drilling conditions, analyze and diagnose abnormal conditions. Thirdly, the system has 3D visualization function which integrates geological information and drilling conditions for visual representation. Fourthly, the system helps recognize the drilling operations automatically and identify the invisible lost time (ILT).
Firstly, the system can achieve the rehearsal of well design according to safety analysis models, which can conduct early warning of drilling risks and propose solutions to avoid risks. Secondly, it can compare monitoring data with theoretical results, instead of just relying on the experience of engineers to improve the accuracy and real-time performance. In addition, the system can timely detect and predict downhole accidents and propose a corresponding solution. Thirdly, the system can intuitively display the dynamic changes of formation conditions and drilling conditions with 3D visualization, which makes it easy for experts to quickly grasp the conditions, thereby shortening the engineering decision-making time, and improving the operating efficiency. Fourthly, it can accurately and timely analyze operating efficiency of different conditions and can identify the best performing operations, crews and rigs. The crew-based operational performance comparisons are effective to identify the best-performing crews and to indicate where best to focus training and crew supervision efforts in the future to make ILT visible. The system has been successfully applied to LW deep-water oil fields and LS deep-water gas fields in the South China Sea, resulting in 35% reduction of downhole accidents and 20% savings in operating time.
The system can alert drilling risks and avoid the complex downhole accidents. Under the premise of ensuring the safety drilling operations, it improves drilling efficiency and saves cost and time for tomorrow’s market.
