Talk Abstract:
IoT, although a buzz word for smart cities, can be combined with Wireless Sensor Networks in rural applications. Design, development, deployment and testing of two such applications applications is presented in this keynote speech. First application is of designing a low cost Wi-Fi extender with the use of routers, cables, IP configuration and networking. Range of Wi-Fi from the access point can be extended with the help of ESP8266 operating in hot-spot mode. Deployment and testing of one such design is implemented for range extension of more than 1km. Second application is use of IoT in forest fire detection , its reporting and monitoring. Forest fire detection is tested and implemented successfully using drones and ESP8266. The test has been performed in the presence of internet and also in its absence
